A look at college basketball games involving schools in the DMV

LaSalle at George Washington, Saturday at 4pm

The Colonials are on a two-game winning streak with wins at George Mason and Duquesne. Even though they are in ninth place in the Atlantic 10, George Washington (12-14, 6-7) has been a great story under first year head coach Jamion Christian.

Now they return home to face 11th place LaSalle. The Colonials aren’t the type of team who can take things lightly but Christian has to be galvanized by Arnaldo Toro’s performance at Duquesne. The senior has had an up and down season since coming back from injury but his 16 point-14 rebound effort against the Dukes was encouraging.

St. Joe’s at George Mason, Saturday at 4:30 pm

The Patriots come into homecoming having lost six of their last seven games. The only win came at VCU of all places. They face last place St. Joe’s but when you’re struggling the way George Mason (14-12, 3-10) is, nothing can be taken for granted.

George Mason is 3-11 since their 11-1 start.

Georgetown at DePaul, Saturday at 9 pm

The Hoyas are coming off a tough loss at home to Providence. Georgetown (15-11, 5-8) is squarely on the wrong side of the bubble so a win over DePaul is a must.

There’s no update on Mac McClung but it looks like he’ll be out for a while. Look for Georgetown to lean on Jahvon Blair on the perimeter and Qudus Wahab is developing nicely as a low post threat.

Omer Yurtseven is still day-to-day.

American at Boston, Sunday at Noon

Sa’eed Nelson is on the cusp of becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer. The senior has started since he stepped foot on campus. His leadership and along with an experience supporting cast has the Eagles tied with Boston for second place in the Patriot League.

American (14-12, 10-5) beat Boston the first time they met this season.
