Terps Destroy Hoosiers

There are three things you can count on. Death, taxes, and Maryland beating Indiana at the Xfinity Center.

Once again, the Terps beat Indiana at home, 75-59. Player led Maryland with Jalen Smith’s 19 points and 8 rebounds.

After getting off to a slow start, the Terps used an 11-0 run in the first half to take the lead. By halftime, Maryland pushed the lead to 28-20 behind Daryll Morsell’s nine points. The Terps  only shot 29% in the first half yet had the lead.

“We weren’t terrific in the first half but we kept guarding and Stix hit the back to back threes, which got him going and kind of loosened up the defense a little bit, because they’re a heck of a defensive team, extremely well coached,” said Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon.

In the second half, Anthony Cowan Jr. and Smith took over on the offensive end while the Terps defense harassed the Hoosiers on the defensive end. Turgeon praised Cowan Jr. for his defense on Devonte Green. “He has done a great job guarding [Devonte] Green who is a really good offensive player.”

Indiana managed to shoot just 36% from the floor. That includes a 4-18 from the three point line. “We have to get a more quality three in the game,” said Indiana head coach Archie Miller. “Our back court has to be able to create more off the dribble on those threes. They have to be able to get assists, those are the ones you’re going to make when you draw the defense.”

The Terps would go up by as much as 30 points in second half.
