George Washington Falls to the Bonnies

Osunniyi and Lofton too much for the Colonials

George Washington pushed St. Bonaventure to the limit but, ultimately, they had no answer for Osun Osunniyi. The Colonials would drop their first Atlantic 10 game of the season.

After only five points in the first half, Osunniyi would dominate the second half finishing the game with 20 points (career high) and grabbed 9 rebounds. Point guard Kyle Lofton played all 40 minutes, scoring 17 points, dishing eight assists, while grabbing five rebounds. Matt Johnson would also have a career-high scoring 12 points.

Jamison Battle led George Washington with a career-high 20 points and six rebounds.

Osunniyi would tie the score at 40 with a dunk. The Colonials immediately responded with a Maceo Jack three pointer. The Bonnies would respond with an 11-1 run putting them up by eight points. During the run, Bobby Planutis would score nine of his 13 points.

Both team got off to a slow start but George Washington would eventually pick it up by patiently running through their sets. Jack’s three pointer would give the Colonials a 12-10 lead.

St. Bonaventure would respond with a 10-2 run as the Bonnies were starting the drive the ball in the lane with success leading to a George Washington timeout. Out of the timeout, the Colonials rattled off four quick points. They continued to the probe the Bonnies defense successfully getting the ball to big man Chase Paar.

An Armel Potter three pointer would give the Colonials the lead back at 28-26.
