George Washington Basketball: Toro Record Setting Night

Arnaldo Toro has been monster on the boards all season and it continued in George Washington’s buzzer beating loss to American.

Toro would be a dominating force tying an all-time Atlantic 10 record with his 24 boards. The record was previously set by the late Yinka Dare for GW against Saint Bonaventure in 1993. Toro’s 13 offensive rebounds also set an all-time GW high.

The senior from Hormigueros, PR is averaging 16.3 points and 16.3 rebounds a game.

New head coach, Jamion Christian, brought his spread the floor system and it has benefited Toro. Against Howard, the three point shooters forced the Bison to cover them out on the perimeter. This allowed Toro copious amounts of room in the paint where he dominated.

The Eagles posed a different challenge because of their big man, Mark Gasperini. The Colonials countered by passing the ball in the lane to Toro putting pressure on Gasperini. The Eagles big man spent the night in foul trouble.

As the Colonial perimeter shooters get more proficient with the three point shot, Toro will have more and more room to operate. This is bad news for the rest of the Atlantic 10.
