Javier Fortuna (34-2-1) comes into Saturday night’s fight against Jesus Cuellar (29-3) wanting to rebuild his reputation. Two fights ago, Fortuna suffered his second loss of his career in a split decision loss to Robert Easter Jr. The decision was controversial but Fortuna didn’t keep his end of the bargain. Even if he won, he couldn’t claim the title because he failed to make weight. Fortuna followed up the Easter Jr. loss with a unanimous win over Sharif Bogere.
Cueller comes into the fight having loss two of his last three fights including a loss to Gervonta Davis. Last time out, Cueller defeated overmatched Carlos Padilla by knockout.
That fight didn’t impress Fortuna. “Cuellar knows that he can’t beat me and knows he didn’t want to take this fight,” said Fortuna.
The Fortuna-Cuellar fight is the co-feature on the Brian Castaño-Wale Omotoso.
