Bruce Weber will be the head coach of USA’s U19 World Cup team. This will be Weber’s first crack at coaching the National Team. “It’s a nice honor and opportunity to be part of USA Basketball,” said Weber.
Weber will try to get the U19 World Cup team back to the Gold medal dais after the team failed to do so in 2017. In that year, head coach John Calipari’s USA team would lose to Canada in the semifinals. In the 99-87 loss, Canada’s RJ Barrett scored 38 points before fouling out. USA would win the bronze medal with a 96-72 win over Spain.
Training camp opens on June 16th.
Mike Hopkins (Washington) and LaVelle Moten (UNC-Central) will serve as assistant coaches.
