FIBA U16 Americas: USA defeats Argentina

Team USA opened up it’s defense of their FIBA U16 Americas title with an 83-57 win over Argentina. Jabari Smith II would lead Team USA with 22 points and nine rebounds.

The Americans would be down as many as 17 points in part because of turnovers (eight in the first quarter). But Team USA would rally to close out the half tied at 31.

In the second half, Team USA would take over behind Adrian Griffin’s 15 second half point. All in all, USA would outscore Argentina, 52-26 in the final two quarters.

Notes:

  • USA outrebounded Argentina 70-49 including 28 offensive rebounds that led to 22 points.
  • After committing eight turnovers in the first quarter, USA committed six combined the rest of the game.
  • USA only shot 32% from the field
