Georgetown’s Freshmen Make Good First Impression

The stage of was set for the Georgetown freshmen to make their much anticipated debut and they didn’t disappoint. Both James Akinjo and Mac McClung started for Georgetown, something no one saw coming but they held their own.

Sure, they made some freshmen mistakes but for the most part, it was an impressive beginning. Akinjo controlled the pace of the game scoring 8 points and dishing out 7 assists. McClung had 8 points including a highlight dunk in transition. But both could afford to cut down on the turnovers. Combined they turned the ball over eight times but they’ll have plenty of opportunities. When asked about Akinjo and McClung starting, Coach Ewing simply said “that’s my starting lineup”.

With all the hype Akinjo and McClung received, it’s easy to forget about fellow freshman Josh LeBlanc. Well, he made sure you remembered him tonight. In his debut, he scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He received high praise from his coach.

His energy. His effort. He’s going to be a menace. He’s going to be on the glass. He’s going to get steals.  He’s going to do all the energy things. Coach Ewing on LeBlanc

LeBlanc’s presence along with the return of Trey Mourning provides Georgetown with some grit in the paint.

All in all it was a successful debut for Ewing’s first recruiting class. When asked how they handled opening night, Ewing simply responded “they were fine”.

They sure were.
