Terps Basketball: Two Legends to be Honored by DC Hall of Fame

Per University of Maryland Athletics, Walt Williams and Len Bias will be inducted into the DC Hall of Fame.

Walt Williams will always be thought of highly in College Park, MD. The NCAA found that Coach Bob Wade and his assistants provided improper benefits to student-athletes and then lied about it. With players fleeing the program, Williams decided to give new coach, Gary Williams, a chance and the rest is history.

Walt Williams was an All-American his senior year. That season he scored 30 or more points in seven straight ACC games.

Many have said, Williams decision to stay would eventually lead the program to their only National Championship in 2002.

Len Bias was arguably the best player Charles “Lefty” Driesell ever recruited. Though he made several big plays, the most memorable came in the fairly new Dean Dome where Bias would steal an inbounds pass and dunk the ball over Warren Martin. Maryland would eventually win in overtime giving Dean Smith and the Tar Heels their first conference loss in the new building.

Bias would finish his career being named ACC Player of the Year twice, holder of 15 school records and third is scoring in school history.
