Penn St. Adds Jim Ferry to Coaching Staff

Penn St has a new addition to the Men’s Basketball coaching staff.

Head Coach Patrick Chambers announced that the Nittany Lions would be adding Jim Ferry to the coaching staff. Ferry is the former head coach of Duquesne.

Ferry has had success throughout his coaching career. Prior to his stint at Duquesne, he led LIU Brooklyn to back to back (2011 and 2012) Northeast Conference regular season and conference tournament championships. Prior to his arrival, the Blackbirds had won 5 games.

That sort of experience and success was too much for Coach Chambers to pass on.

“We absolutely seized the opportunity to bring a person and a coach of Jim’s caliber into our Penn State basketball family,” Chambers said. “We’ve been good friends for a long time and his extensive experience, perspective and ability to develop and recruit players will have an immediate impact on our program.”

Undoubtedly, Ferry’s strongest suit is his offensive mind. In 2011 and 2012, he led LIU-Brooklyn to an average of 81.4 points a game. In 2015-2016, Duquesne averaged close to 80 points a game in the tough Atlantic 1o.

Last season, the Nittany Lions had wins over Georgia Tech, Michigan St., Minnesota, and Maryland. Ferry is looking forward to helping Penn St. get to that next step.

“It’s an exciting time for Penn State Basketball and to be able to contribute to the success is something I am really looking forward to. I’m already familiar with this great university and have a strong connection, as my oldest daughter graduated from Penn State and my youngest daughter is a current student. I’m proud to say I’m a part of it now too.”
