Power 5: Big XII Dominating the Poll

With conference season upon us, expect shake ups in the Power 5 almost each, if not every, week. Villanova stayed on top while West Virginia makes their debut.

  1. Villanova (14-0) – The Wildcats get off to an undefeated start in Big East play. DePaul shocked some by being competitive at Villanova. It might have been a case of looking ahead to top 10 Creighton. The Wildcats took care of business against the Bluejays. After getting off to a slow start at Creighton, you saw the versatility of the Wildcats. Josh Hart’s 18 & 10 performance was trumped by Jalen Brunson’s 27. Kris Jenkins chipped in with 21.
  2. Baylor (13-0) – Is there a quieter 13-0 team? The Bears keep rolling through their schedule. The conference opener was supposed to be a big test as when the traveled to Norman, Oklahoma. Baylor took care of business and did it in a big way with a 76-50 victory over the Sooners. Oklahoma was held to 17 points in the first half by the Bears defense. Johnathan Motley led Baylor with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
  3. UCLA (13-1) – The Pac 12 didn’t do UCLA any favors by having them open up on the Oregon swing. It got off to a rough start with a loss at the buzzer to the Ducks. The Bruins were up by two when Oregon’s Dillon Brook’s hit a 3 with .8 seconds giving the Ducks a two point win. UCLA responded to the loss by going to Corvallis and defeating Oregon State, 76-63.
  4. Kansas (12-1) – Conference season couldn’t have come soon enough for the Jayhawks. Kansas started out their quest for another Big XII title with a win at TCU. Frank Mason III had 22 points while sophomore Lagerald Vick had 17.
  5. West Virginia (12-1) – The Mountaineers jump into the Power 5 after their win at Oklahoma State. Huggins’ crew has won 7 in a row after their only loss to Temple. West Virginia has four players averaging in double digits.
