Power 5: Something Bruin In The West

It was hard keeping Baylor and North Carolina out but it is called the Power 5 and early on we are sitting top notch basketball. UCLA had to best win of the week as they went to Lexington and beat Kentucky.

  1. Villanova (8-0) – The Wildcats just keep going about their business as the defending champs with very little fanfare. Wright’s crew took care of business in blowout wins over Penn and St. Joes. Up next is LaSalle and Notre Dame. They will be challenged more in those games.
  2. Kansas (7-1) – Jayhawks had a couple of blowout wins over Long Beach State and Stanford. Sophomore Lagerald Vick had 23 vs. Long Beach State while 4 players scored in double digits against Stanford. Frank Mason III had 20.
  3. UCLA (9-0) – The Bruins had the best win of the week over Kentucky. In their 97-92 win, despite 18 turnovers, UCLA outshot and outrebounded the Wildcats.
  4. Duke (8-1) – Here’s a scary thought. The Blue Devils have yet to be totally healthy and they are pounding teams. This past week’s victims were Michigan State and Maine. As Duke gets healthy, expect to see them continue to overwhelm opponents with skill and depth.
  5. Kentucky (7-1) – The UCLA loss was nothing to be ashamed of. The young Cats will need to respond as they have Valpo and Hostra before a date with North Carolina.
