Patriot League Notebook: Kempton leads Lehigh

The Patriot League’s Player of the Year Award is going to be uber competitive. Lehigh’s Tim Kempton will be square in the middle of the POY talk. This week, Kempton led Lehigh (5-5) to two blowout wins. Kempton posted a double-double in both games, averaging 26 points, 14.5 rebounds.

In Annapolis, Navy (5-6) did something they had never done. They came back from a 25 point deficit to defeat Bryant. It was the second largest halftime comeback in NCAA history. In the win, Tom Lacey had 16 points and 17 rebounds. Following the win over Bryant, there was no letdown. Navy cruised in a 15 point win over Columbia.

Holy Cross (4-6) had lost 3 out of 4 coming into the game against Quinnipiac. Take a closer look at those losses and you will see that those losses came by 3, 3, and 2 points. In the game against the Bobcats, Holy Cross made sure there would be no question at the end of the game. Robert Champion scored 28 and Karl Charles chipped in 14 points in the 75-57 victory.

Bucknell (7-3), Army (5-5), American (2-7) and Loyola (MD) (5-5) all have split their last two. The Bison still have the best record in the Patriot League before conference play. After their 10 point loss to at LaSalle, the Bison got 23 from Nana Foulland in a road win at Fairfield.

Jordan Fox’ 20 led three Black Knights in double digits as Army defeated Air Force, 79-71. American watched their all world freshman point guard, Sa’eed Nelson score 22 and grab 9 rebounds in a 15 point win over Youngstown State. Coming off a loss to Towson, Jarred Jones came up with a 25 point, 10 rebound performance in Loyola (MD) overtime victory over Binghamton.

Boston University (4-6) and Colgate (2-9) have dropped 5 in a row. Lafayette (3-6) is coming off a tough two games swing with losses at Penn and home to Sacred Heart.
