Atlantic 10 Round Up: Gibbs and Davidson Shine

Davidson (3-1) had an impressive two game stretch where they beat Mizzou and Arizona State. In their 70-55 win over Mizzou, Jack Gibbs poured in 25 and then followed it up with 28 against Arizona State. In the 68-60 victory over Arizona State, Peyton Aldridge pitched in with 12 points, 11 rebounds.

VCU (3-0) will head to the Bahamas undefeated at 3-0. They will open against 20th rank Baylor. Rhode Island (4-1) had an impressive run at the Hall of Fame Tip Off tournament. The Rams got wins over Marist, Brown and Cincinnati before falling to Duke in the Finals.

After an opening night blowout loss to East Tennessee State, Fordham (4-1) has run off 4 straight wins. Each win has been by double digits. George Washington’s (3-1) winning streak came to an end with a close loss to Georgia. Tyler Cavanaugh had an impressive 21 point, 6 rebound performance in the 8 point loss to the Bulldogs.

UMass (3-1) versus Temple seems to always produce a classic. The Minutemen beat the hated Owls 70-67 followed by an 8 point win over Holy Cross. The Spiders from Richmond (3-1) didn’t stub their toe heading into their match up with Maryland. They beat both Robert Morris and Hampton. TJ Cline had 18 and 17 respectively.

Dayton (2-1) fell to 17th rank St. Mary’s at home 61-57. Next up for the Flyers is Nebraska in the Wooden Legacy tournament. Tough week for Coach Phil Martelli’s St. Joseph’s Hawks (3-2). They dropped games to Ole Miss and NC State. It doesn’t get easier as the Hawks have Temple and Villanova next.

George Mason (1-3) comes off a loss to Houston but will have winnable games against Kent State and James Madison. The Patriots have Seniors Marquise Moore and Jalen Jenkins leading the way. St. Bonaventure (1-2) and LaSalle (1-2) both are looking to turn the table this week. The Bonnies dropped a tight 68-85 game to Arkansas-Little Rock while LaSalle lost at the buzzer to Texas Southern.

Like LaSalle, Duquesne (2-3) lost a game at the buzzer. Canisius’ Phil Valenti hit a jumper with 1.5 seconds left giving the Golden Griffins a 78-77 victory. The Dukes followed that with a blowout loss to Kentucky. In an otherwise tough week for the Billikens, Sophomore Jermaine Bishop exploded for 27 points versus BYU. Bishop has been in double figures in his last three games. St Louis is 1-3 on the season.
